Parenting in a Screen-First World: A Conversation with Jenny Anderson
This April 23rd we are hosting a virtual conversation with Joe Waters and award-winning journalist and author Jenny Anderson. Jenny’s recent piece in The Atlantic about a math teacher who decided to stop using screens in his classroom (only to learn how much they had been holding him and his students back) sparked a national conversation. She is also the co-author of The Disengaged Teen, which provides insights and analysis on why so many children lose their love of learning in adolescence, and includes recommendations on what parents, teachers, and schools can actually do about it.
Our conversation will focus on her reporting and her forthcoming book, and what it might help parents do to address these issues.

Date: April 23, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM ET
Duration: 45 minutes
Jenny has written that one of her biggest worries is parents having to police what kids do on screens from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and the long-term consequences of a generation that’s checked out. This is your chance to ask questions and walk away with new ideas on how to approach this conversation in your household (or classroom!).
