Commentary: Flourishing Families Will Give SC the Future it Deserves

The Post and Courier

If we want a stronger, thriving South Carolina, we must start by supporting the stability, quality and predictability of life for our families. For too long, efforts to help families and improve the lives of children and their communities have been fragmented, reactive or forgotten. But what if we completely reframed these conversations? What if policymakers, philanthropists, politicians and business leaders asked themselves: What can I do to help all families flourish?

It’s time for every leader and every citizen to commit to a shared vision: a South Carolina where every child can thrive in healthy families and communities.

In our rapidly changing world, one truth remains constant: When we prioritize the flourishing of families and children, we are moving in the right direction. Yes, this work can be daunting. It may feel overwhelming or even frustrating at times. But remember: We are all on the same team. Though we come from different backgrounds, professions and perspectives, our collective efforts can create a future where every family in South Carolina has the opportunity to flourish.
