Capita is an independent think tank and community. We anticipate global change, shape narratives, and partner with leaders to craft effective policies for a future in which families and their communities can flourish.

Our Vision: Capita has an ambitious vision: a future in which families can flourish in just, peaceful, and prosperous communities on a healthy, safe, and clean planet.

Our Work: We explore the major transformations of our time—social, demographic, cultural, technological, environmental, and economic—and anticipate their potential impacts on families and their communities worldwide. We partner with thinkers and doers across multiple disciplines to uncover new insights and craft policy proposals that meet the needs of diverse audiences. We advise leaders as they consider and implement those proposals to create a future in which families and their communities can flourish.

Our Approach: Capita’s unique approach lies in our commitment to systems change. We tackle deep, systemic, root-cause issues that remain underexplored but are crucial to the flourishing of families and their communities. We recognize that the challenges facing families and their communities today are deeply rooted and complex, requiring comprehensive solutions spanning multiple sectors and disciplines. Our work is guided by core values—human dignity, solidarity, democracy, exploration, and deep hospitality—that shape every initiative we undertake.

We live in an age of acceleration, liquidity and fragmentation. Our interest is not simply in how families can flourish today, but figuring out ways to help them flourish for decades to come.

Our values

Our work is guided by a set of six values, and our commitment to justice, diversity, equity and belonging.

Who we are

Capita was founded in South Carolina, USA in 2019. Today, our organization has team members, contractors, partners and board members based all over the world—from Washington D.C., Denver and Paris, to Cape Town, Monterrey, and Lima.

Our Community

Capita is a think tank and a community of policymakers, advocates, practitioners, state and city leaders, funders, journalists, artists, activists, and more. These are individuals or organizations that believe in and are crafting a future in which families can flourish. The community comes together around shared beliefs and values to help craft what that future could look like. Capita’s community also plays a key role in our relationships with families and their communities and to hear directly from people affected by the issues we work on. We root our approach to our community in our core value of deep hospitality.

Our Approach

Bringing about long-term, big picture improvements in the lives of children and families requires action across multiple fronts. That includes:

Generating Ideas and Solutions

We curate and develop new dialogue, ideas, policy proposals, and tools that address pressing issues across multiple disciplines. These tools are designed to be used by policymakers, civil society, and capital holders.

Connecting People

We convene and advise leaders, thinkers, and networks from diverse sectors. By fusing insights from the past, present, and future, we create spaces for social imagination, meaningful conversations, debate, and collaboration. We build cross-disciplinary networks to ensure long-term, impactful change.

Conducting Research

We conduct original research and analyze trends that affect families and communities, while also highlighting groundbreaking work from other leading organizations. Our aim is to inform policy and practice with data-driven insights.

Providing Advisory Services

We specialize in bringing creative ideas and solutions to the table and tailoring them to your needs. Our team is ready to work with you, whether you represent governments, philanthropic entities, businesses, social enterprises, or CSOs.
